Mazumdar hits hundred

VIJAYAWADA Dec. 2. Powered by Amol Mazumdar's century, Vinod Kambli's 86 and Robin Morris' unbeaten 48, Mumbai declared its first innings at a formidable 504 for six about an hour before close of play on Tuesday. In reply, Andhra was 15 without loss when stumps were drawn ahead of schedule on account of fading light.

Mazumdar continued the good work begun on Monday, although he let Vinod Kambli take most of the strike in the morning session, the latter treating the goodly crowd to his own entertaining brand of cricket.

Andhra went for the new ball when play began, which the lively left-hander dispatched promptly to the backward square leg boundary off Kalyan Krishna. On another occasion, he took his time to position himself, before patting the paceman to the fence in a classic cover drive.

Brief scores:

Mumbai 504 for six decl. (Wasim Jaffer 143, Bhavin Thakker 47, Amol Mazumdar 115, Vinod Kambli 86, Robin Morris not out 48) v Andhra 15 for no loss. — Our Special Correspondent
