In reply, Gujarat was struggling at 67, with three of its top batsmen already cooling their heels in pavilion. Sharath, who was unbeaten on 97 on Monday, cracked a brilliant 155 studded with 17 boundaries, when the visitor resumed at 252 for six. Gujarat paceman Shymal Bhatt struck two early blows in the morning when he removed overnight batsman Ganesh Kumar and R. Ramkumar to take his innings tally to four for 93. Just when it seemed that the visitor would be bowled out within 300, tail-ender Ganapathy came up with a tenacious unbeaten 43 and added 76-runs with Sharath. Ganapathy had six hits to the fence in his 106-ball knock spending nearly two hours at the crease. Memories of middle-order collapse on home turf against Hyderabad in the season opener returned to haunt the host as the TN speedsters sent three batsmen to the pavilion when Gujarat began its first essay. However, in-form opener Akash Christian stood firm with an unbeaten 50 and skipper Mukund Parmar was not out on 1 at close on day two. Brief scores: Tamil Nadu 372 (D. Karthik 31, S. Badrinath 35, S. Sharath 155, Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan 50, L. Patel three for 81, S.G. Bhatt four for 93) vs Gujarat 67 for three (A. Christian batting 50). PTI
