Panel approves three engineering colleges

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Dec. 2. The Cabinet Sub-Committee on Professional Colleges has recommended setting up of three more engineering colleges in the State, taking their number to 120. The committee recommended approval of three out of 10 applications it received.

The Minister for Public Works, Dharam Singh, who headed the committee, said these colleges now had to await the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The colleges are Nadiger Institute of Technology, Bangalore, Mookambika College of Engineering, Bangalore, and Sri Mookambika Charitable Trust Engineering College, Kollur. The streams approved are electronics and communication, computer science, mechanical, and information science. The intake for each stream is 60. The colleges will start functioning in the next academic year. While conceding that nearly 6,000 seats were vacant in different streams, Mr. Dharam Singh said that four streams for which the three colleges had sought permission were demand-based.
