Institute signs pact with industry

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE Dec. 2. The National Institute of Engineering, Mysore (NIE), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bosch Rexroth India Ltd. under the aegis of the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).

The Managing Director of Bosch Rexroth, Wolfgang Wagner, told presspersons here on Tuesday that with this MoU, the company had become the first non-IT player in the private sector to partner with reputed academic institutions to provide "courseware" and technical infrastructure to familiarise educational institutions with technologies associated with its area of business — hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechatronics.

The VTU Vice-Chancellor, K. Balaveera Reddy, said the MoU was a significant step towards making higher technical education in India more relevant to the industry. While there were many such initiatives in the IT sector, this was the first such move by a company from the manufacturing sector.

The VTU, Dr. Reddy said, was a forward-thinking institution that moved with the times. The syllabus and content were updated annually to keep pace with the fast-changing technological advancements, so that students went out on the field with education relevant to their jobs.
