Dilip Kumar Verma, was declared elected from the Mahasi constituency in Baharaich district while in Harora constituency in Saharanpur district Vimla Rakesh won the seat. The byelection to the Harora constituency had become important especially for the BSP as the former Chief Minister, Mayawati, earlier held the seat. She quit the Assembly following the fall of her Government in August last which necessitated the byelection. The Mahasi seat had fallen vacant following the death of the BSP member, Ali Bahadur.
