CHENNAI DEC. 2. The Tamil Nadu Government has forwarded a Rs. 10.26-crore proposal seeking financial assistance from the Centre under the Integrated Improvement Development Scheme for revival of sick units on the Guindy Industrial Estate here, the Rural Industries Minister, K. Pandurangan, said today.

Once the Centre's formal approval came, the State Government would take up infrastructure improvement work on a war-footing to improve the facilities by January.

The scheme would be implemented on the 400-acre estate, where there are 700 industrial units suffering for want of a motorable road, streetlights and good sanitation.

The Minister was participating in an entrepreneurs' grievance interaction meeting organised by the Industrial Estate Manufacturer's Association (IEMA) here.

Seeking the cooperation of the entrepreneurs to upgrade the facilities, the Minister said the Small Industries Development Corporation Managing Director, S. Rajarethinam, would soon convene a meeting with senior officials from the Revenue department, the Corporation, the police and other connected departments in a bid to redress their long-pending grievances.

The Government would set up small scale industrial estates in Theni, Nagapattinam, Vellore, Namakkal and Tiruchi. In this context he said that under the Anna Marumalarchi Thittam several entrepreneurs including a large number of women were helped to become self-reliant.

Delivering the key-note address, Mr. Rajarethinam said that under the Integrated Improvement Development Scheme, five major industrial estates at Guindy, Madurai, Ranipet, Hosur and Thuvakudi (Tiruchi) were identified for upgrading of basic amenities.

The participants sought the Minister's immediate intervention to prevent the entrepreneurs migrating to Bangalore if the conditions were not improved here.

One of the entrepreneurs appealed to him to notify the Industrial Area Township Act and have single-window clearance for assisting the industrial units.

K. Gopalakrishnan, president, IEMA; K.V. Kanakambaram, president, and R. Kannan, honorary general secretary, Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association, spoke.
