Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Staff Reporter
Patients with such degeneration suffered from blurred vision. A clinic for treating such disorders would be set up in the hospital and inaugurated by the Governor, P.S.Ramamohan Rao, on Friday. The hospital, which treats 30 per cent of its patients free, would soon add equipment and services, including a Fundus camera and Green Angiography to detect eye disorders, Dr.Rajan said. A sutureless vitrectomy system, which enabled surgeons to operate on patients suffering from eye bleeding, would also be introduced. A low vision aid centre to treat patients suffering from night blindness would be opened. The Governor would also symbolically open the Rajan Eye Care Laser Centre in Cuddalore. Eight percent of the district's population suffered from diabetic retinopathy, a preventable problem about which the centre's doctors would educate the public. An institute of optometry, which would offer six-month fellowship courses, would be inaugurated.
