Sir, I refer to the article "Dealing with AIDS" (Dec. 3). Though the percentage of AIDS patients in our country is low when compared with countries such as South Africa, India has attained the dubious distinction of having the second highest number of AIDS cases in the world. Pre-marital testing should be made mandatory to check the spread of AIDS.

Sir, The photograph of the HIV positive child and its mother should become an icon for all anti-AIDS campaigns. It serves as a grim warning.
