`Togadia's plans not revealed'

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE Dec. 3. Prominent writers and thinkers including Girish Karnad today alleged that the Sangh Parivar had obtained permission from the police to hold the Virat Hindu Samajotsava here on Sunday by concealing the information that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader, Pravin Togadia, would participate. Addressing a press conference, they said that the event was planned to incite one religious group against another through provocative speeches. The locality chosen for the samajotsava betrayed the mala fide intention of the Sangh Parivar, they alleged. Mr. Karnad, along with Sudra Srinivas and Gowri Lankesh and others, announced that a demonstration would be held by a large number of organisations and prominent writers and thinkers here on Saturday to protest against the samajotsava which, they said, would cause more damage than the Datta Jayanti celebrations at Bababudangiri and the Shobha Yatra in Chikmagalur planned by the parivar. After the protest demonstration, the movement would be taken to Chikmagalur where several progressive leaders and organisations would hold a "harmony convention" on Sunday and an "integration meet" at Bababudangiri the next day.
