Awards for Pattammal, Balamuralikrishna

CHENNAI DEC. 3. The Chennai Fine Arts proposes to present the Narayana Iyengar Centenary awards to Carnatic musicians, D.K. Pattammal and M. Balamuralikrishna. Subbudu, music critic, who spent considerable time with Narayana Iyengar, exponent of the Chitravina (also referred to as Gotuvadyam), and Madras A. Kannan, mridangist, who accompanied Mr. Iyengar, will also be honoured.

A 10-day festival has been planned at the Kanchi Mahaswamy Ananta Mandapam of the Anantapadmanabha Swami temple, Adyar here, from December 20. During the programme, the trust would popularise the instrument and adopt young talent for training under the Gurukulam system, according to a CFA press note.

The Gotuvadyam Narayana Iyengar Birth Centenary Celebrations Committee had been set up to celebrate a year-long festival dedicated to the eminent artiste and also give away awards and scholarships to deserving artistes and students.
