In a nail-biting all Bengal encounter, Poulomi kept her nerves to script a 4-3 win over Mouma Das (Oil India), while in the men's summit clash, Sharath Kamal had little problems in defeating Soumyadeep Roy (IOC) 4-1. After the loss in the first game, Poulomi, with her trademark backhand topspins, clinched the next three games for a 3-1 lead. The 20-year-old Poulomi tried hard in the fifth game to close out the match, but Mouma was in no mood to give in as she unleashed some wonderful smashes and fine backhand placements thereby taking the match to the decider. Effective on both flanks, Mouma's strength, undoubtedly, lies in her forehand, and she used it to devastating effect. The decider turned out to be a keenly fought affair until 8-8. Once Poulomi blocked an effective smash from Mouma, the National No. 1 Poulomi sensed the title was hers. This is Poulomi's first title in her four years with BPCL. The men's final turned out to be a disappointment. Soumyadeep looked uninspiring, but Sharath in his first year with IOC, looked fresh. The 21-year-old from Chennai produced some wonderful winners to notch up a relatively easy win. M.S. Ramachandran, Chairman, Indian Oil, gave away prizes. The results (finals): Men: Sharath Kamal (IOC) bt Soumyadeep Roy (IOC) 7-11, 11-6, 11-2, 11-8, 11-8. Women: Poulomi Ghatak (BPCL) bt Mouma Das (Oil India) 12-14, 11-2, 11-9, 12-10, 7-11, 9-11, 11-9.
