Tight security for Babri Masjid demolition anniversary

New Delhi Dec. 5. An alert was sounded today in Uttar Pradesh and security was stepped up across the country on the eve of the 11th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

Additional security forces, including the Rapid Action Force and the Central Reserve Police Force, were deployed in the twin cities of Faizabad and Ayodhya.

Security reinforcements have been rushed to communally-sensitive districts of Meerut, Aligarh, Moradabad and Varanasi.

Elaborate security arrangements were made in Vadodara, where the VHP said it would distribute 20,000 trishuls. It also planned rallies all over Gujarat.

The organisation said it would hold a Hindu `sammelan' at Karsevakpuram in Ayodhya on the day and a scooter rally in Lucknow.

In Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore district, security was tightened to prevent any untoward incident and a strict vigil was being maintained at railway stations, bus stands and public places.

Police were asked to step up vigil at all places, especially pilgrim centres, including Sabarimala in Kerala. — PTI
