Row over newborn babies

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Dec. 5. The police had to be called in at the SAT Hospital by the authorities following a complaint that two new-borns may have been swapped by the hospital staff.

The confusion occurred after two women gave birth by Caesarian section - a boy and a girl - about the same time on Friday.

According to hospital sources, one of the women, Ansila (18) had a boy while Bindu (25) gave birth to a girl.

It was the unit chief doctor who alerted that the babies might have been swapped.

The Superintendent of SAT, Rajmohan, had to call in the police to settle the issue after respective parents put up complaints and refused to hand over the babies.

The hospital has formed a high-level committee to decide on the case.

The babies are now in SAT's nursery. Blood samples have also been taken.
