The failure of the producer concerned to report for duty is said to be the reason for the incident. According to Doordarshan sources, all the other staff were ready in the news studio for the broadcast. There was a recent re-allotment of duty schedules for Doordarshan producers and this may have resulted in a confusion as to which producer should have reported for duty this morning, sources added. The director of Doordarshan Thiruvananthapuram, P. Pir Mohammed, told The Hindu this evening that he was enquiring into the incident. "At this point I am not completely sure what happened, today being a holiday,' he said.
