Concern over attack on newspapers

By K. Venkiteswaran

KOCHI Dec. 6. The Indian Newspaper Society president, M.P. Veerendrakumar, has expressed concern over attacks on newspapers on Saturday in different parts of the Malabar region in Kerala.

In a statement issued here today he cited various instances of vehicles carrying different newspapers being attacked this morning.

The intolerance against newspapers under some "feeling" raised a challenge towards the democratic setup of the country, Mr. Veerendrakumar said.

The INS president wanted the authorities to view seriously the growing violence against newspapers and journalists of late.

They were bound to ensure that such attacks were not repeated.

Steps should be taken to bring to book the culprits responsible for Saturday's attacks.
