Uma Bharti to be elected leader today

BHOPAL DEC. 6. The newly-elected BJP MLAs in Madhya Pradesh will be meeting here at 3 p.m. on Sunday to formally elect their star campaigner, Uma Bharti, as the BJP legislature party leader.

The State BJP organisation general secretary, Kaptan Singh Solanki, told newsmen today that after being formally elected leader, Ms. Bharti would meet the Governor and stake her claim to form the next Government. Meanwhile, preliminary preparations are being made for Ms. Bharti's swearing-in ceremony at the imposing Lal Parade ground in the heart of the State capital.

Mr. Solanki said the party national vice-president, Pyarelal Khandelwal, besides the Union Ministers, Ram Naik and Arun Jaitley, would be present at Sunday's legislature party meeting as Central observers. The State in-charge of the party, Om Prakash Mathur, and the State party president, Kailash Joshi, would also be attending the meeting.

There was hectic activity in the State BJP headquarters todaywhile Ms. Bharti was busyholding discussions on Government formation.While Ms. Bharti would become the first woman Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the ruling BJP would also be represented by 15 newly elected women MLAs in the Assembly.
