CHENNAI DEC. 6. An auto driver was killed today after he was hit by a private water tanker on Anna Salai at Nandanam. The driver of the tanker, contracted to Metrowater, was also injured and admitted to the Government General Hospital here.

Traffic police identified the deceased as Anthonysamy (38). The tanker tried to overtake the auto near the Nandanam Arts College. The auto driver swerved to the left to avoid the tanker, but was hit from behind. Anthonysamy, who was seriously injured, was rushed to the GH, where he was declared dead on arrival. Manikandan, the lorry driver, was injured when his vehicle came to a halt after hitting an advertisement hoarding. He is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

At Moovarasanpet near Nanganallur, a 70-year-old woman died in a freak accident.

Nagammal was sleeping on a pavement at the Burma Tamilar Colony last night. A lorry that was passing through the area came to a sudden halt as one of its tyres burst.
