Sir, I refer to the observation of Era Sezhiyan on the Centre's proposal, if any, to offer Hindi as an option to those appearing for the defence services officers' examination (Dec. 6). It will do well for Indians to effectively learn their mother tongue, regional languages and possess adequate knowledge of English which has assumed global significance. Non-Hindi speaking people will be really benefited if they acquire sufficient knowledge of Hindi as it is of practical utility.
