Adams dropped for first Test

Durban Dec. 7 . Spinner Paul Adams was dropped from the 14-member national squad announced today to play the visiting West Indians in the first cricket Test in Johannesburg from December 12 to 16.

Announcing the squad, which has a new face in Garnett Kruger, national selection committee chairman Omar Henry said Adams was not picked because Wanderers pitch would not be conducive to spin bowling.

``Although Adams is recovering well from the hand injury he sustained last week, we feel that conditions would not be ideal for him at the Wanderers,'' said Henry.

The team: Graeme Smith (captain), Mark Boucher (vice-captain), Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Hall, Jacques Kallis, Gary Kirsten, Neil McKenzie, Makhaya Ntini, Andre Nel, Robin Peterson, Shaun Pollock, Jacques Rudolph, Martin van Jaarsveld and Garnett Kruger.
