The party national president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, would take part in the three-day conference of the State office-bearers, district presidents and presidents of the feeder organisations, the BJP general secretaries, K. Raman Pillai and P.K.Krishnadas, said while briefing presspersons about the meeting of State office- bearers and feeder organisation conveners' held here today. They said the meeting had reviewed the outcome of the bypoll in the Thiruvalla Assembly constituency. The party had been able to register a commendable performance in the byelection even though the UDF had `misused' the official machinery to garner votes. A resolution to this effect was also passed at the meeting. The UDF's win could not be termed as a success because the victory margin of its candidate had come down this time than that registered in the last Assembly elections, they pointed out. Mr. Raman Pillai said the functioning of the Disciplinary Action Committee would be tightened to quell anti-party activities. The committee would submit its report on the alleged transfer of votes to the Congress nominee by party cadres in the Ernakulam Lok Sabha byelection within a week, the party leaders said. Suggestions have also been sought from the committee on what action should be taken against some of the party functionaries in Pathanamithitta district, he said. The meeting was presided over by the State president, P.S.Sreedharan Pillai. The Union Minister of State for Defence, O. Rajagopal, also attended the meeting. However, the senior leader of the BJP, P.P. Mukundan, was conspicuous by his absence.
