Post-election survey findings

NEW DELHI DEC. 7. The victory of the Congress in the Delhi Assembly elections can be attributed to a popular perception of good performance by the Sheila Dikshit Government. On the other hand, the BJP failed to adapt to the changing social composition of the voters, and failed to go beyond its traditional support base among Punjabis and the rest of the business community.

These are some of the findings made by the Delhi-based Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), on the basis of a post election survey carried out exclusively for The Hindu. (The details appear on Page 12).

The larger CSDS study covers all the five States that went to the polls recently. The reports that relate to the other States will be published in the following days in these columns.
