Cross-border marriage performed

Batala Dec. 7. A cross-border marriage was performed today at Qadian in Gurdaspur district, following a `Nikah' between an Indian bridegroom, Chaudhary Maqbool Ahmad and a Pakistani bride Tahira Hazur.

Tahira Hazur, a B.Sc student at Faislabad in Pakistan was engaged to an Ahmadiyya Muslim youth, Maqbool Ahmed, a resident of Qadian town in Gurdaspur in March 2001 and their marriage was fixed for December 2001 but it could not take place following the terrorist attack on Parliament. It was on the intervention of the former Prime Minister, I.K. Gujral, that the visa was granted to Ms. Tahira Hazur but her family members were denied the visa and hence they could not make it to the marriage.
