Letters to the Editor
Sir, I refer to your editorial "A sound and just proposal" ( Dec. 09 ) on the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa's suggestion of joint naval exercises by India and Sri Lanka to check the Sea Tigers' excesses on the seas. The suggestion on educating Indian fishermen should be pursued because it is a sound pre-emptive measure.
At the same time, it is disheartening to note that the MDMK leader, Vaiko, has termed the proposal a bid to thwart the peace process.
Sir, The illegitimate action of the Sea Tigers in detaining Indian fishermen should be condemned strongly, as pointed out in your editorial. The quick reaction by Ms. Jayalalithaa in drawing the attention of the Centre to the issue is laudable. This should be looked into urgently as national interest is involved.
