Ornaments, cash stolen after killing old man

By Our Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA DEC. 9. Five persons broke into a house near the ICICI bank on the busy Bandar Road here and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs. 5 lakhs and Rs. 2 lakhs in cash after killing the landlord, N. Ramamohana Rao, in the wee hours of today.

The deceased person was having a dispute over a title of 600 square yards of site in his possession. So, the police are investigating whether it is murder for gain or a property-related one.

Mr. Ramamohana Rao (70) came here in 1977 and set up an auto service station by taking on rent a piece of 600 square yards of site belonging to Ghulam Mohiddin Estate. Later, he reportedly claimed title to the land leading to a dispute. While he won the case in the lower court, a daughter of Ghulam Mohiddin went in appeal to the High Court. The High Court gave a verdit in her favour and Mr. Ramamohana Rao appealed against it. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, P.J. Victor, and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), Bhupal Singh, visited the place. Mr. Victor said the body had been sent for post-mortem.
