BECON on Dec. 11

MUMBAI DEC. 9. The Reserve Bank of India Governor, Y. V. Reddy, will inaugurate the two-day Bank Economists' Conference (BECON) 2003 on Thursday.

The theme of the conference, which would be attended by more than 250 delegates and 70 business school students, was `Indian banking — Moving towards globalisation,' V. Leeladhar, Chairman and Managing Director of Union Bank of India, who was hosting BECON, said here today.

The conference would have discussions on various issues such as regulatory, technology, distribution channels in rural and urban India and retail banking, he said.

Apart from Finance Ministry officials, some of the other prominent speakers include RBI executive directors, Usha Thorat and Shyamala Gopinath, the State Bank of Indian Chairman, A. K. Purwar, ICICI Bank CEO, K. V. Kamath, and Standard Chartered Bank CEO, Chris Low, he added.
