Aircel to expand network

COIMBATORE: Aircel will be expanding its capacity and the network within the next few months at an outlay of $40 million, its Chief Executive Officer, K. V. P. Baskar, announced yesterday. Aircel at present has five switches, 300 base stations catering to about 4.75 lakh subscribers and the capacity would be enhanced to 8.5 lakh connections soon. From the present network of 167 towns, Aircel would have 150 more base stations in 125 new towns. To improve the quality and to ease congestion, 100 more base stations were being added up in the existing towns, he said. — Our Staff Reporter
