Biological's plans

HYDERABAD DEC. 9. The 50-year-old Biological E Ltd, the country's first private sector biological products company has forayed into biotechnology and is making an investment of Rs. 100 crores in Phase I in a modern biotech project fast coming up on a 50 acre site in the Biotech Park 40 km from here. The Phase I is scheduled to be completed by December 2004.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, Mahima Datla, Vice-President, Strategic Business Development, said the new facility would be used to produce other vaccines like Hepatitis B and `Combination vaccines' for paediatrics. It also plans to launch the HIB vaccine.

Deepak Sarda, Senior Vice-President, said with the committed investment in the new biotech project, the company would be banking heavily on biotechnology capabilities.
