By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI. Dec. 9. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams calendars for the year 2004 printed in various categories carrying the images of Lord Venkateswara and His consort Padmavathi would hit the stands soon.

With the new year fervour catching up, the temple towns of Tirupati and Tirumala are buzzing with activity and the TTD is making elaborate arrangements to cope with the rush. More than a lakh pilgrims would converge on the hill temple on the new year-eve for a glimpse of the deity who would be adorned with the best of ornaments.

To meet the demand for its calendars, dairies and greeting cards, the TTD has printed them in huge quantities and is busy despatching them to retail outlets. As for the calendars, it has brought them out in four different categories viz: Lord Venkateswara (two lakhs), Goddess Padmavathi (it is brought out for the first time and 10,000 pieces are printed). The Lord and His consort together-- a popular variety (three lakhs), 12-sheet calendars (10,000). This apart, the TTD has brought out a Telugu almanac (panchangam) in calendar form and printed 40,000 copies besides one lakh greeting cards carrying the images of the Lord in different postures, vahanas etc. As many as 10,000 dairies which would be a useful hand-book on various TTD sevas, the tariffs, time, number of persons allowed, particulars about cottages, tariffs and so on, are also ready for despatch.

The prices of all these range from Rs. 3 to Rs.60 a piece and it is allowing a 12.5 per cent rebate to retailers while ensuring a close watch on attempts at blackmarketing.

The products would be available both at Tirupati and Tirumala inside the temple and at its retail outlets outside as well. The TTD's Information Centres operating in various cities and metropolis would also sell the products.
