Mixed response to Bihar bandh

By Our Special Correspondent

PATNA DEC. 9. The Bihar bandh today, sponsored by the National Democratic Alliance and the Lok Janshakti Party demanding the dismissal of the State Government in the wake of the removal of D.P. Ojha as the DGP, evoked a mixed response. The bandh, by and large, was peaceful except for some tension in Gaya town.

Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from districts, but there was no major untoward incident.

Train services in the Danapur and Samastipur divisions of the East Central Railway were affected resulting in several running behind schedule and several others departing from the capital being rescheduled.

Tension prevailed in Gaya where a clash ensued between two groups over the support to the bandh call.

Finding shops opened in a locality, members of the other community tried to forcibly pull their shutters down.

Brick-batting was followed by explosions in which the Superintendent of Police received injuries and his vehicle was damaged.

PTI reports from New Delhi:

Meanwhile, Mr. Ojha said today that he would move the Supreme Court within 15 days for transfer of all cases relating to the Rashtriya Janata Dal MP, Md. Shahabuddin.

He would request the apex court that Mr. Shahabuddin be tried outside Bihar, preferably Delhi.
