The Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said the award was in recognition of Dev Anand's histrionic abilities, extraordinary creativity and long association lasting more than 50 years with all forms of film-making. ``His contribution to the growth of Indian cinema has been truly outstanding.'' The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakhs, a shawl and a ``swarna kamal''.
