Tamil Nadu
By K. Ramachandran
An officer in the rank of Chief Secretary, Sukhavaneswar, has been asked to conduct the inquiry and submit a report within three months. According to official and academic sources, the charges were misuse of privileges enjoyed by the top-most authority of the technical university such as excess use of mobile phone, the number of foreign trips made, diversion of funds generated by the autonomous centres and from conduct of Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examinations and the Tamil Nadu Engineering admissions and irregularities pertaining to use of university facilities and infrastructure. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption conducted a preliminary probe into some of the charges four months ago. The enquiry ordered by the Government is said to be a fallout of this as also of petitions received by the Government. The Government has written to the university administration, asking it to provide officers full access to files and various departments/centres. A copy of the order will be sent to Dr. Kalanidhi. Although Dr. Kalanidhi completed his term in July 2001, his pension dues are yet to be settled. Government nominees in the Syndicate objected to a move to settle the dues as a DVAC inquiry was on.
