Following the draft notification regulating large construction projects, the former Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, before laying down office, wrote to Ms. Jayalalithaa appreciating her concerns about the federal nature of the Indian polity as enshrined in the Constitution. In his reply to a letter from her, Mr. Gehlot said he would have the issue examined in detail and take it up at the appropriate level. He added that at the same time, the larger concerns over the environment could not be ruled out. According to an official release, Ms. Jayalalithaa would now write to Ms. Raje, hoping that she will respond positively.
