The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, G.K. Vasan, participated in an inter-faith prayer meeting and then distributed, free clothes and sewing machines to the poor and aids for physically challenged persons, at a function here organised by the Central Chennai youth wing. Before participating at a prayer meeting at the Anna Salai `dargah', Mr. Vasan administered an oath to the members for re-dedicating themselves to the cause of working for the party's secular, democratic and socialistic ideals. They also pledged to work for installing a Congress Government led by Ms. Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and bring back the `Kamaraj regime' in the State. In an informal chat with the media, Mr. Vasan said the Congress was concentrating on building up the party and not focusing on creating an alternative to the DMK and AIADMK in the State. At the north Chennai unit, special pujas were performed at the Kandasamy temple in the morning and `annadhanam' in the neighbourhood of Vyasarpadi and Park Town area. The South Chennai district unit organised a meeting to mark the occasion in which the former working president, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, participated.
