He told presspersons here today that the meet would be attended by intellectuals and members of progressive forces in the State. Expressing satisfaction that the communal harmony meet organised by the vedike had been a success despite obstructions, he said it was a warning to the Sangh Parivar. Taking exception to the behaviour of some police officers towards those taken into preventive custody for defying prohibitory orders imposed by the District Magistrate, Mr. Ashok called for the suspension of these officers. Accusing the Congress party and the BJP of competing with each other to bring in a fascist State, Mr. Ashok said the Congress party had forfeited its claim to be a secular party. Siddana Gowda Patil, Secretary of the State CPI unit, said his party would take the attitude of the Government as a political challenge. He accused the police and the Government of being puppets in the hands of communal forces.
Meeting held
Our Bangalore Staff Reporter writes: A meeting of the Bababudangiri Komu Souharda Vedike has termed the S.M. Krishna Government an "anti-people and communal" one. The meeting was convened by the vedike here today to protest against the Government's action in arresting several people who wanted to stage a peaceful protest against the Datta Jayanti celebrations.
