Editorial: Asked why First Class had not been abolished on Deccan Queen, the Railway Minister replied he wanted to give more comfort to people. He added that this de luxe train from Bombay to Poona is one of the most paying trains. If we remember right, neither money considerations nor sentimental softness, influenced Government in deciding to abolish First Class; zeal for equalitarian democracy decreed it. However that be, happy sojourners between Bombay and Poona may look upon the Railway Minister's favour as nothing more than their lawful due. But there is a fly in the ointment. If they are getting more consideration from the Department than others are, why, there are others who are getting even more; travellers by the Frontier Mail, to wit, will move to music at sixty miles per hour. A radiogram fixed in the dining car will give out potted music when it is not reeling off the latest news bulletins.

If the bulletins, by reporting the fall of your favourite scrip on the exchange while at dinner, tend to depress your digestion, the joyous clangour of jazz will no doubt off-set its effect.

But there are perverse people in de luxe trains, who have no use for the selective gregariousness of the dining car.

And their oddity goes so far as to taboo potted music, or any music at all. They prefer to listen simply to the soothing rhythm of the speeding train.

By cultivating that kind of eccentricity, one can make sure that no bureaucrats on earth can push one out of concert with oneself.
