The all-time high for silver was Rs. 9,350 a kg recorded on February 5, 1998, dealers said. Gold, however, met with some resistance at improved level along with weak overseas advices and closed steady. Ready silver (.999 fineness) opened the day on a new high of Rs. 8,985 and rallied further on increased stockists' buying and closed at Rs. 9,000, showing a sharp rise of Rs. 70 over the previous close of Rs. 8,930. Pure gold (99.9 purity) opened the day on a steady note at Rs. 6,125 and after moving narrowly closed at the same level, showing no change from yesterday's close. Standard gold (99.5 purity), after a steady start at Rs. 6,085, eased marginally to end at Rs. 6,080, showing a small loss of Rs. 5 over the previous close of Rs. 6,085. In Hong Kong, gold fell to end at $406.20-406.70 an ounce from yesterday's close of $408-408.50. PTI
