MCD clarification on illegal constructions

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI DEC. 10. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) today clarified that the Vijender Kumar Gupta sub-committee report on unauthorised constructions had not recommended any immediate action on residential premises that had been illegal turned into commercial properties.

The Leader of the House in the MCD, Ram Babu Sharma, who is also the Corporation's Standing Committee Chairman, and the sub-committee head, Vijender Kumar, stated that the recommendations -- that the MCD be given "powers to acquire" all the residential-turned-commercial properties which are of more than 300 sq.mts. located on major roads - had been made to be incorporated in the Delhi Master Plan 2021.

"Any action on this can be taken only after an amendment is made in the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act by passing a bill in this regard in Parliament," they said, adding that the sub-committee had never recommended any action on present illegal constructions. "The report says that all the present illegal constructions should be regularised and recommends strict action against any unauthorised construction the future," they added.
