Jadeja powers Delhi to a commanding position

VADODARA DEC. 10. Ajay Jadeja scored an undefeated 206 (383b, 23x4, 2x6) - his first epic knock since returning to cricketing action - to power Delhi, which resumed at 233 for three, to a commanding 510 for seven declared against Baroda on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite-A contest on Wednesday. In reply, the host was 25 for one at stumps.

Bengal in command

Bengal moved into a strong position over Hyderabad in their Elite-B contest at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Resuming its first innings at 223 for seven, the visitor was bowled out for the addition of just 29 runs, with left-arm spinner Utpal Chatterjee finishing with a career-best eight for 54. The host ended the day at 153 for three, with the stylish opener Arindam Das undefeated on 72.

Gagandeep, Yuvraj lead Punjab fightback

At the Karnail Singh Stadium in Delhi, Railways, resuming at 311 for four against Punjab, was shot out for 390 in its Elite-A contest. The strapping mediumpacer Gagandeep Singh was the wrecker-in-chief, finishing with five for 61 from 34 overs. At stumps, the visitor was 157 for three, with Test aspirant Yuvraj Singh, who opened the batting, cracking a quick 80.

Kambli, Muzumdar help Mumbai take control

The 114-run fifth-wicket stand between Amol Muzumdar (85) and Vinod Kambli (81 batting) saw defending champion Mumbai, 15 for one overnight, end the day at 300 for seven in reply to Kerala's first innings score of 155 in their Elite-A match-up at the Wankhede in Mumbai. For the visitor, mediumpacer Prashanth Chandran took five wickets.

Andhra in trouble

Andhra was 112 for five in reply to Uttar Pradesh's first innings score of 267 at the Green Park in Kanpur. The southern state's hopes are now pinned on young Y. Gnaneswara Rao (55 batting) and his ability to marshal the lower-order. Earlier, Shahabuddin's five-wicket haul went a long way in restricting the host, which has resumed at 179 for four.
