Left arm spinner Neetu David bowled a tight 49th over that yielded just one run. New Zealand eventually scored 206 for seven in 50 overs while chasing India's 211 for four in 50 overs. Earlier, the script veered towards the visitors after Sara McGlashan (26, 22b, 1x4, 1x6) carted Hemalatha Kala for 17 runs in the 46th over. McGlashan's assault helped New Zealand reduce the asking rate from 6 to 4.35 runs per over. However the finish eluded New Zealand as two run outs ruined the chase. Haidee Tiffen, a picture of assurance in her 56 (77b, 2x4), was left stranded, as Mamatha Maben's throw from short covers was accurate. McGlashan survived an lbw appeal from Neetu David but succumbed with a saunter down the pitch. Sadly nerves undid the New Zealand innings after an early confident start opener Maria Fahey's 52 (95b, 5x4). In the morning, the Indian top-order revelled after New Zealand captain Maia Lewis opted to field. Anju Jain (37) played second foil to an aggressive Jaya Sharma (43) and after the openers departed, Anjum Chopra (46) and Mithali Raj (59, 58b, 5x4) stabilised the innings with a 107-run third-wicket partnership that helped India cross the 200 mark. India's Mithali Raj bagged the `eve of the match' award while Neetu David and New Zealand's Haidee Tiffen won the `best bowler' and `best batswomen' awards.
