Economic issues to dominate ``BJP's agenda''

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Dec. 10. The State BJP has decided to title its manifesto "BJP's Agenda" which will formulate policies and programmes relating to economic, social, health, educational and political issues.

Disclosing this to reporters here on Wednesday, the State BJP's vice-president, S.V. Seshagiri Rao, has said the manifesto committee which met here earlier had felt that term "manifesto" was not appropriate and has decided to name it "BJP's Agenda." It would be in consonance with the NDA agenda.

Agriculture, irrigation, power and infrastructure were identified among the important economic areas which would be highlighted in agenda.

He said the party would come out with concrete suggestions on how to protect the farmers from international market pressures and ensure that they get remunerative prices for their produce. Besides, the measures needed to increase the yields of crops would also be suggested.

Referring to backward areas development, eradication of rural poverty and development of irrigation facilities, he said that projects for creating an additional 50 lakh acres would be suggested. Concrete proposals would also be made for developing agro-aqua farms along the 1,000-km coastline.

He said that several Union Ministers, including Murli Manohar Joshi, Ram Naik, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Ravi Shanker Prasad and party leaders, Pramod Mahajan and Prakash Javdekhar, would be participating in the " Neeti Kosam-Bhoomi Kosam" campaign of the party in the State later this month. So far, the campaign had been conducted in 89 constituencies and the response was quite good.

He renewed his party's appeal to the State Government to release five instalments of DA to five lakh pensioners in the State and announce it as a New Year gift.

He urged the Government to take a serious view of reports that one or two constables opened fire targeting a particular community during the recent riots and demanded the payment of ex gratia to the kin of the dead and the injured.
