Their outstanding work all reporting on how the Information Society is taking shape in different parts of the world will be recognised at a gala awards ceremony in Geneva on December 11, 2003, during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Several heads of state as well as industry and civil society leaders will be among those who present awards in four categories gender, youth, poverty reduction and media. The awards ceremony is a key highlight of a series of activities and events organised by the Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) parallel to the WSIS. The awards carry a prize of $ 2,000 each and a plaque, now dubbed the "Cyber Oscar." The four winners are: Marcia de Toni is a journalist for Radio Brasil, and the director of Radio Brasil's Sao Paulo office. Ansbert Ngurumo is a columnist for Mwananchi Wiki Hii, a Kiswahili weekly published in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Tadaferua Ujorha is the Features Editor of the Daily Trust newspaper, Abuja, Nigeria. His winning two-part article, "Shiroro: in the wake of the great flood," was published in his newspaper on September 25 and 26, 2003. Anand Parthasarathy, Information Technology correspondent of The Hindu, has won the award for his news report, "India's first computer-literate village," published on August 4, 2003.
