Thackeray's brother passes away

Mumbai Dec. 10. Shrikant Thackeray, music director and cartoonist and younger brother of the Shiv Sena leader, Bal Thackeray, passed away here today, party sources said.

The septuagenarian was ill for some time and the end came at 12.30 p.m., the sources added.

Mr. Shrikant, father of the Sena youth wing leader, Raj Thackeray, composed music for some Marathi films and brought renowned singer Mohammad Rafi into the Marathi film world.

As an avid film critic, he also contributed to the daily Saamana, the party mouthpiece and also Marmik, dedicated to the Sena.
