Members of six BMP panels elected

BANGALORE Dec. 10. Elections to six of the eight standing committees of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Council were held today. All members were elected unanimously. The Mayor, P.R. Ramesh, announced the constitution of the standing committees on Taxation and Finance, Accounts, Education and Social Justice, Horticulture and Marketing, Appeals, and Public Health. The members of the committees:

Taxation and Finance Committee: Samiullah, M. Srinivas, M. Nagaraj, Muniraju, M. Venkatesh, Ashwathamma, and Prathima Raghu.

Accounts: B.N. Nirmala, Gowramma, Mahadevamma, H. Venkatesh Reddy, G. Padmavathi, Vijaya Muniraju, and L. Venkatesh.

Education and Social Justice:Magala, Gita Sadashiva, K. Chandrashekhar, Yasmeen Taj, and C.M. Nagaraj.

Horticulture and Marketing:S.K. Nataraj, T. Ramachandra, C. Dundegowda, Muniswamappa, G. Srinivas, S. Rajanna, and T.V. Prabhu.

Appeals: L. Srinivas, B. Mohan, Keshavamurthy, R. Shankar, Nazreen Taj, and B.C. Lokesh Reddy.

Public Health: C.S. Suryakantha Rao, Marimuthu, Mahalakshmi, S.K. Venkatesh, Amudha Gopichand, A. Krishnappa, and Shantakumar.

The Mayor, who conducted the elections, said all nominations were in order. Since only seven nominations were received for each of the standing committees, all members were elected unopposed. However, the Standing Committee on Education and Social Justice received only five nominations, and five members were elected unopposed.

Mr. Ramesh said the chairpersons of the standing committees would be elected on Monday.
