Man accused of murdering wife, son

BANGALORE DEC. 10. A 40-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife and son, and brutally assaulted his daughter at their house in Banaswadi police station limits on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred at the house of Ramaraju, a tailor, on Convent Road at Kammanahalli around 5.30 a.m. Following a quarrel with his wife, Rukmini (35), Ramaraju allegedly hit her on the head and chest with a hammer. When his son, Kiran (12), and daughter, Kavitha (16), came to the rescue of their mother, he allegedly hit them on the chest and neck with the hammer, police said. He allegedly bolted the main door of the house from outside and fled even as Rukmini and the two children were lying on the floor, police added.

Following the commotion, neighbours rushed to Ramaraju's house and shifted Rukmini, Kiran, and Kavitha to a private hospital, where Rukmini was declared brought dead. Police said Kiran, a sixth standard student at St. Paul's School at Kammanahalli, died on the way to NIMHANS. Kavitha, a 10th standard student in the same school, is in a serious condition.

According to police, Ramaraju quarrelled with his wife and left the house on Tuesday midnight. He came back around 5.30 a.m. on Wednesday and picked a quarrel and assaulted her, police said.

Ramaraju, who hailed from Madurai district in Tamil Nadu, married Rukmini, a Banglorean, 17 years ago. He worked as a tailor in Dubai for a few years and returned to Bangalore in December 2002. Police said Ramaraju was an alcoholic and frequently quarrelled with his wife demanding money. Banaswadi police have taken up a case and begun a search for Ramaraju.

Man commits suicide

A 40-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) park in 4th Block, Jayanagar, on Tuesday night. Some people who saw the body on Wednesday morning informed the police.

The dead has been identified as Murugesh, a tender coconut vendor who lived in Cauverynagar, Banashankari. The reason for the suicide is not known. Jayanagar police have registered a case of unnatural death.

Fatal accident

Ramachandra (32) of Havanur Layout in T. Dasarahalli, was killed on the spot and his friend, Suresh (37), injured, when a lorry hit the motorcycle they were riding around 9 p.m. on Tuesday. The accident occurred near S.M. Circle on Tumkur Road. Ramachandra was an employee of Delta Fashions. Peenya police have seized the lorry and arrested its driver.

Fire at two places

Two buses of a private transport company were damaged in a fire that broke out near a garage on Canara Bank Road in Chandra Layout police station limits on Tuesday night. Police have registered a case.

Fire broke out in a coffee shop on 4th Main, Hanumanthnagar, on Wednesday afternoon following gas leakage from an LPG cylinder. A fire tender put off the fire. No major damage was reported, police said.

Theft charges

Yelahanka police have arrested two persons on charges of theft and recovered gold ornaments, electronic equipment, and a motorcycle. The total value of the goods seized was estimated to be Rs. 1.30 lakh.

Police gave the names of those arrested as Rajesh alias Dada Peer (28) of Madugiri in Tumkur district, and Tajju (25) of Yeshwantpur. The accused allegedly committed burglaries in HAL police station limits in Bangalore and Tumkur district, police said.
