India monitoring Pakistan troop deployment

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI DEC. 11. The Government is aware of the deployment of submarines and troops by Pakistan near the west coast of Gujarat and the operations of Pakistan naval submarines near the Gujarat coasthave come to its notice during the last two months. There is also known deployment of Pakistani troops opposite the Rann of Kutch and Sir Creek Area. The deployment is being monitored by Indian forces, the Defence Minister, George Fernandes, told the Lok Sabha in a written reply today.

He said the Government had decided to acquire five executive jets for VIPs from Embraer of Brazil. The contract for the purchase had been signed on September 19. While four jets were meant for the Indian Air Force, one would be for the Border Security Force.

Necessary budgetary allocation had been made to ensure safe and efficient transportation of visiting VIPs in aircraft fitted with modern navigational aids.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation has developed a device to temporarily mute remotely-controlled improvised explosive devices. This will ensure protection to the Army convoys moving through insurgency-hit areas.
