Major fire averted

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI DEC. 11. A major disaster was averted today after Fire Force personnel from Aluva put out a fire at a teashop behind the Indian Oil petroleum outlet in Kalamassery.

The teashop, about 15 ft. long and thatched with plastic sheets, was completely gutted. The fire was caused by a leak in the rubber tube of a gas stove used in the shop, said the fire station officer, Aluva, N. Thankesan.

The fire caused panic as the teashop was located just outside the compound wall of the petroleum outlet. An ambulance and a fire engine were rushed to the spot from the fire station.Earlier in the day, leftover rubber crumbs in a dryer at Harishree, a rubber unit at Edayar, caught fire as workers were trying to dismantle the dryer.

Two fire engines were rushed to the spot. But the workers at the factory had managed to put out the fire by then. Nobody was injured in either incident.
