Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Cabinet's decision to revise the Constitution (97th Amendment) Bill is welcome. Legislators have been lured by the fishes and loaves of power, resulting in the splitting of political parties a loss to one becomes a gain for the other. It is hoped that the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha will vote soon for the passage of the bill.
D.B.N. Murthy,
Sir, Defection, no doubt, defeats democracy and the law dealing with it should be made more stringent. As for limiting the size of the Cabinet to 15 per cent of the legislators, though it will ensure a much-needed pruning of jumbo-size Ministries, it should not be applied uniformly. Requirements of States differ.
N.K. Vijayan,
