NEW DELHI, DEC. 12. Bharti Infotel Ltd. (BIL) today launched its "WiFi'' service over DSL (direct subscriber line) in Delhi, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka circles thus making its fixed-line service provider Touchtel the first telecom company giving the "wireless broadband'' facility to residential and SME (small and medium enterprise) subscribers. Claiming that the new service would enable Internet speeds up to 8 Mbps along with the freedom of access anytime, anywhere in the house or office and on always-on basis, the BIL's President, Badri Agarwal, said, "Netizens opting for our DSL will now be able to use simultaneously use Internet on both a laptop and a PC as there is no limitation on the number of people using Internet at any given moment. The company will charge Rs. 550 per month for 128 Kbps DSL.'' Mr. Agarwal also announced that the company would be jointly working with the world's largest chipmaker, Intel, to promote usage and deployment of newer technologies and development of applications for wireless broadband services. "Our partnership with Intel is significant in the direction of developing a whole new suite of applications for wireless broadband access services.''
