According to the police, Meenu disclosed that she was passing through a severe financial problem for the past several months. Despite coming from an affluent family, she had not been getting any support from her parents who had almost disowned her. While she remained close to Dr. Gupta, she also allegedly fell into bad company and became extravagant. In the meantime, she got married to a man dealing in car insurance and finance, who did not earn much. Meenu told the police that though she continued to maintain relations with Dr. Gupta, she was always traumatised by the thought that he had abused her. However, when her proximity to Dr. Gupta started creating marital problems in her marital life, she started avoiding him. One of the ways to distance herself from him was to keep making monetary demands which worked but not for long. A few months ago, Dr. Gupta again contacted Meenu when she was in desperate need of money. Investigations suggest that lured by the prospect of getting money from him, Meenu again started meeting him. Around a fortnight before the murder, she requested Dr. Gupta for financial help as her business partner had been asking her to contribute or quit. However, Dr. Gupta reportedly expressed his inability to fulfil her demand, which infuriated Meenu further. Her desperation for money had reached such a level that she once even stole her father's credit card to use it for shopping. But she did not have the necessary details of the card due to which she could not encash it. She then roped in Amit, her close associate who dealt in car finance, and her employee, Deepak, to make a quick buck. The three first thought of stealing Dr. Gupta's Skoda car and selling it. However, Amit said the idea would not work, as it was difficult to dispose of such an expensive car without proper documents. According to the police, investigations so far have revealed that Meenu was so desperate for money that she also offered to trap some man and extract money from him by threatening - through Deepak and Amit -- to implicate him in a molestation case. However, Deepak and Amit could not muster the confidence to do so. Meenu, who was looking for a chance to take revenge "for what Dr. Gupta did to her'', first thought of eliminating him by forcing him to swallow a heavy dose of sleeping pills. She said she planned to take him to Buddha Jayanti Park on some pretext and there Deepak and Amit would overpower him and force him to consume the pills. However, Deepak chickened out. He said it would be difficult to execute the plan due to a heavy police presence in that area. Then Meenu allegedly decided to call Dr. Gupta to her office and get him murdered, following which the three planned to encash his two credit cards having an upper limit of money totalling Rs. 4 lakhs. As planned, they allegedly strangled Dr. Gupta, hid his body behind curtains till late in the night and then took it to the Gurgaon-Faridabad highway where they allegedly set the body aflame. However, they dropped the plan to encash the cards fearing that the police would trace them through the transaction records and burnt them.
