Mayawati alerts party on early Lok Sabha polls

Lucknow Dec. 12. The national president of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) today told her party workers to get ready for an early Lok Sabha poll in May and said that the party would contest the election on its own.

"Political indications are loud and clear that Lok Sabha elections would be held in May next year before the scheduled time and for that the party workers should start preparations on war footing," the BSP president Mayawati said while addressing party workers at the sprawling Ambedkar grounds here.

Claiming that the BSP's fortune was on the "upswing", she said the party's vote percentage had gone up significantly in the four States where elections were held on December 1.

"In Uttar Pradesh we are better placed than other political parties," she claimed.

Ruling out alliance with any political party she said the BSP would contest the next general elections on its own.

She claimed that BJP was shaky in U.P. and had already lost its foothold in the State while the Samajwadi Party would try to influence Lok Sabha elections using government machinery.

"...Make effective plans to stop booth capturing, she said asking party activists not to believe reports about division in BSP ranks.

Accusing many reporters of being anti-Dalit, she said the BSP would soon launch a newspaper of its own to counter this malicious propaganda.

Ms. Mayawati also appointed two coordinators -- Ganga Charan Sonkar and Indrajit Saroj -- who would coordinate with district level coordinators and report directly to her. -- PTI
